Ocean Innovator, Vic Grosjean
Two unrelated incidents, both with overtones of life lost, prompted a young man to devote a large part of his future to saving the Earth’s oceans.
For Vic Grosjean, the first was speaking to his grandfather, Maurice, who, just before he died, asked Vic what he intended to do to make the world a better place.
A few years later as Vic was walking along a beautiful beach, his grandfather’s question was answered by the sight of a dozen dead birds, their bodies ripped open and their stomach’s full of plastic.
He made a commitment to do all he could to help environmentalists and technologists save the rubbish-filled oceans. He became an Ocean Innovator.
Vic’s work was recognised in 2018 when Rotary International President Barry Rassin selected him as one of six people to showcase their work at a United Nations assembly in Nairobi, Kenya, at which the six were named Rotary People of Action: Young Innovators.
In Rotary, he is a member of the committee organising the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne in 2023. a board member of Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG); publishing a Green Event handbook to be distributed to all Rotarians; chairs OceanX Group which monitors the environment; organises monthly clean-ups; and launched a weekly Ocean Innovators on-line series focused on finding sustainable solutions to environmental damage.
His five-year goals are to encourage young people to join Rotary and become unbolted in environmental projects, support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and bring peace to the world.
