IET 150 years Celebration – Danielle George
What is your job and why are you/what makes you a difference maker?
I integrate technology to monitor the environment and reduce the impact of human pollution on our oceans.
What sustainability work have you been doing? How are you engineering a better world?
We develop technological solutions which uses sensors to monitor pollutants in our waterways. I also work with people of action, to understand where the pollution comes from and stop it, at its sources.
What attracted you to engineering and technology?
When I was 17 years old, I started to work as a scuba-diver and I realised how much pollution ended up in our oceans. So I decided to learn technology and design solutions which could help saving our oceans.
What do you hope your work will achieve in the future?
Through Ocean Innovators, I want to promote the work of the younger generation. There are the ones who will find the solutions which will make our world more sustainable and help us save our oceans.
Do you have any advice for young people out there who might be looking to go into STEM and become a difference maker?
Don’t be afraid to dream big. If we want to save planet A, every little action counts. Especially when we are 7 billions taking the steps to make this world a better place.
