1. Checklist:
- Prepare a copy of your resume
- Ask for the interviewer names
- Check the address
- Check on the background of the interviewer (LinkedIn), so you can say: e.g. “I have seen your worked on this project, I love walking over that bridge”
- Do you have phone numbers and email addresses of your references
- Updated college transcript
- Black / Blue pen
- Bring a notebook
- Names and addresses of your employers
- Bring a watch
- Prepare 2 or 3 ‘go to’ questions that demonstrate that you prepared in advance
2. During the interview:
- Arrive 5-10 minutes before your scheduled time
- Collect the business card of the people you have met
- Show confidence
- Make eye-contact and smiles
- Have a firm handshake
- Moderate your voice to sound calm and assertive
- Use words and knowledge of their industry
- Describe your career goal direction
- Always listen carefully the question
- Use a story-telling technique
- Only give the essential background to get to the point
- Always show a positive result and outcome
- An interview will last 30 to 45 minutes
- 5 Min: Greeting and small talk
- 15 Min: Mutual discussion of your background and credentials as they relate to the needs of the employer
- 5 Min: To have an opportunity to ask questions
- 5 Min: Wrap-up/discuss next steps in the process
3. After the interview
- Tell the employer that you feel that there is a good fit and you are eager to join the team
- Additional questions should be sent no longer than 24h after the interview
