Interview of an ocean conservation expert

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2, June 2019 – Interview of an Ocean Conservation Expert

Vic Grosjean interviewed by Rotary International about ocean conservation

Plastic pollution deeply affects the waters from our planet. 90 percent of the plastic pollution only comes from 10 rivers. Every year, 8.8 million tons of plastics make their way into our Oceans.
Compared to other types of pollution, plastics breaks down to millions of pieces. Those pieces end up everywhere, in your blood, in the fish you eat, or even the salt on your table.

What people do not realise is that everyone can make a difference by taking little steps every day. If we don’t act now, statistics are really alarming: By 2050, it was predicted that there would be more plastics than fish in the ocean. It’s about doubling the plastic pollution every ten years. We are now on a critical path which is why we need to act right immediately.

EndPlasticSoup in a nutshell

EndPlasticSoup started June 2018 with 18 Rotary clubs, cleaning the canals of Amsterdam. During its first year EndPlasticSoup organised brainstorm sessions, held a lot of presentations and we proclaimed the first Saturday of June the ‘EndPlasticSoup Action Day’.

EndPlasticSoup increased contacts with 100 Rotaract- and Rotary clubs. Rotaract Europe chose plastic soup as their social program 2018-2020! And EndPlasticSoup was present in The House of Friendship in Hamburg. It is our ambition by end 2020 to connect 3.300 Rotary clubs worldwide and come into action under the flag of EndPlasticSoup, so please join us.
We are ambitious and strongly believe that together as Rotarians we can EndPlasticSoup and make sure that there is no more plastic waste in the oceans, rivers, seas and on land by 2050! And EndPlasticSoup is now approved by Rotary International as part of the ESRAG theme for plastic pollution across all areas of focus. This means Global and District Grants can be approved for this new Area of Focus.
